The Camrilla was formed in the 15th century. Under its guideance was the Masquerade set, which can be viewed as the Laws of the Vampires. It sets the basic principles and creates harmony between Kindred and humans. Almost since its foundation it had been fighting against the Sabbat, a group that it considers as its direct opponent.
The Camrilla considers itself as the society of Kindred - partially correctly. Every vampire may join regardless of age or lineage, though the Camarilla already considers that all vampires are members, regardless of personal opinions.
The vast majority is still the seven founding clans though. Vampires form different bloodlines may attend meetings and conclaves but the vioces are almost unheard.
After the Anarch Revolt the Camrilla faced with all its forces towards the Sabbat. The sect believes that all others that are not with it are its enemies. Especially true this is for the Sabbat, as it would throw away everything that is sacred for the sect.
The Camarilla now is not at all as stable as it is advertised to be. Elders keep their positions and do not consider to pass their powers even to those Kindred that has reached the age limit and younger vampires feel - and are - left out of an organisation that they are suspected to uphold. What is more, Ancillae are trapped in the middle: if they turned to the young Neonates then they would be seen to lack in power but if they turned towards the Elders then they would be crushed for stepping over boundaries and for insolence.

The Sabbat
Camarilla? The relic of frightened elders who prey upon their childer and cling to dreams of glory that are long gone.

The Independents
Their overwhelming ideal of 'for the good of Kindred' leads them to sweep you along with their plans, and if you don't want to go, then you must be the enemy. There's a reason why we prefer to stay on our own side of the street.
